The Fallen (Remake) Chapter 20

Raphael sat there and drummed his fingers. I sat there and glared at him. I said, "Do you have wings?" He responded, "Hm? Oh. Oh, no. No I do not. I wish I did though. Nicole showed me hers when she was younger." He smiled and laughed a little as he said, "She used to have a crush on me." I was starting to not like this guy more and more.

He cleared his throat and spoke. "She was in a car accident once. No one was hurt, but I got to thinking: what would happen if she had to get one of her limbs amputated? There aren't too many Bird People Doctors, are there?" He gestured to the blueprint. "This was one of those, 'Just in case' things that I forgot to hide when cleaning out the storage room." I looked at the blueprint. I asked, "Could this thing let me fly?" He paused. Then he answered slowly, "I don't know. I haven't built a prototype of it yet."

I stared at the picture. What my eyes were telling me, was that there was a chance for me to fly again. My heart was aching to put this thing on. My head was saying that this was near impossible and could not happen. But I had to try. I knew that if I didn't try, it would haunt me for as long as I lived.

"Congratulations." I said, "You found your test subject."

Meanwhile.......

The bounty hunter put his X-Ray goggles down. He knew where his target was. The others were pushovers to him. The "International Criminals" were nothing but jokes. The FBI were still trying to confirm if this guy even existed. He gave a wicked grin towards the building that held his prey. To him, this wasn't about money, or respect. This was about the hunt. The thrill you get when you chase someone down. The way they squirm or scream under your grasp, sometimes they do both.

This boy, Gabriel, he eluded some hunters, how he did so was sketchy, but it was enough to catch his attention. He would wait for just the right moment. Right when he let his guard down. That was the time to strike.

He grinned and even started laughing to noone in particular. He was so tickled that he may have found the most enteresting prey yet.
