TL&TOHJ~Hope: The Bloody Fight

We got ready to tango, but before any of us did anything, Roland stopped everything. "Wait! waitwaitwaitwaitwait." He laughed for a little bit as if he just got the greatest idea ever. "What if-hoo-What if this was like the golden days? Like, the Roman Colosseum? Huh? We send one or two of our guys out, they send one of theirs, and they duke it out! Huh? Whadaya think guys?" The gangsters looked at each other like, Is he for real? I stepped a little closer. "What are you planning, Roland?" He looked at me with that same smile. "Nothing, dearest. Nothing at all. Just trying to have a little fun in life. Who's your first Champion, Honey?" He was on the verge of laughing again. Gemini, from behind me, said, "We'll take on all these guys, you creep." The gangsters were starting to clear a large area between me and Roland. Roland said, giggling, "Oh, Chunk! Release the first beastie."

The big guy named Chunk ran over to a crate you would see in a shipyard. He unlocked it and barely got out of the way as it slammed open. Standing there was what looked like a hunch back dog in torn street clothes and a Mohawk. It held a crowbar, as if it actually needed a weapon. It looked around the room and sniffed. It looked at us and snarled. Roland laughed. "You don't find these at pet-smart! He seems to have the ability to sniff out other freaks. He makes such a good pet." He put his fist in the air and screamed, "Go get him, Beauregard!" I would have laughed if the thing didn't look so terrifying.

The thing jumped over us and slammed into Goliath. We started to run after him, but Roland said, "Ah ah ah." We turned and saw him holding a gun to Jimmy's head. "Stay there, or Jimmy here goes bye bye." I gritted my teeth and I saw that Angel and Gemini were getting tired of this guy too. Jimmy, who was quiet this entire time said, "My name is James! I mean Doublecross!" Then he hung his head in defeat of his own words. We watched as Goliath fought tooth and nail outside of the warehouse, literally. He really needed help here. Roland surprised us again. "Don't fret, kiddies. Daddy's got candy for everyone!" Chunk and two others opened up three other Crates. Out of one came another monster. It looked like a lizard's head with a tail and arms and legs sticking out of its neck area. I saw multiple tongues in its mouth. It had beady eyes and it focused on Gemini with them. It charged and soon Gemini was having his own fight. One that involves the enemy eating stuff and upchucking at him at high speed.

The other two held a kid each. One was Mexican girl and had tears in her eyes. The other was a little boy who looked roughly Asian. Both of them were filthy and their clothes were torn. "Oh. My..." I realized that I just said that. Angel looked at me. "What is it?" she asked in a low whisper. "I know that girl." I heard myself say. "She goes to my school. Her name's Diana, but that's all I know about her."

Roland did the impossible, he smiled even wider than before, probably due to the look on my face. "What?" he said, "You thought it was all monsters? No. That wouldn't be as fun." He looked at the kids, who looked as wide eyed and scared as wild animals. "Time to earn your freedom, kiddies. You two ready to go home? Then go kill the do-gooders!"

The Asian boy took one look at Diana then charged at Angel. Diana had a sorry look, and was still crying. She walked over to me. She said in a hushed whisper, "I'm sorry. I just....want to go home. I can't....." She choked back more sobs. She put up her hands and I was suddenly hit by nothing while listening to a deep boom. I flew through the air and hit the wall of the building across the street.

Ouch.

Rising Ch. 15: New Target

"We have the upper hand here! Mostly due to you broken arm!" Predator grinned. "Who said it was broken?" He took out the spike in his robotic forearm and tossed it aside like a tooth-pick. Pierce said, "Well, I'm out of ideas." "Hold on a sec." I said to him. I turned my focus to Predator. "That's some nifty stuff you got goin on, Hunter. Did you get it half off or what? You can't get that stuff easy at where I shop!" He glowered at me. "You'll never know." I tapped my finger on my chin, pretending to think about it. "Is it Bishop? No. Wait. Let me guess. Does he have blond hair? Is he rich? Does he scare you?" He flinched. "How-None of your Business!"

"How are you gonna get the ladies with that man? Oh, let me guess, you're going to install a grappling feature. That way, you can reel them in, and then sweep them off their feet with your four wings." I did the impression of reeling a fishing rod, and then acted like I was carrying someone and sweep them off their feet. I struck a nerve there. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut-Up!" He flew over to me and I ducked. Heh. I got wings, and I ducked. Okay. Enough jokes. Time to be serious.

When he landed behind me, I said, "Come on. Lets take this to the skies if you think you're a good enough fighter-flighter." I took flight out of the building and into the air above it. He followed close behind, just like what I wanted. While we're fighting, Pierce can get Nicole and Jean. We exchanged punches and kicks. I had to dodge most his attacks because of his advantages. I said, "You're a good fighter." I said, trying to keep him distracted. "Hell yeah I am!" He taunted back. "Those Williams Boys know what they're doing!" He kicked me in the chest: as if to prove his point. Which backed me up a good fifteen feet away before I started flapping my wings again. I put a hand against my chest in spite of myself. That knocked the wind out of me.

I smiled and laughed a little. "Why you laughing, Billi-Bong? You think pain's funny?" I said, "Nah man, I just can't believe you told me who your working for." The color drained from his face, then it was replaced with redness from fury. "You ain't gonna live long enough to tell nobody!" I dropped a foot or two in the air and watched him go over. I flew back to his level and said, "Please. You think just because you have a new set of wings, you can beat me in the air? I've been flying for years." I performed multiple kicks on his face to prove my point. His hand flipped like a Swiss-Army Knife: Replacing his hand with a Magnum.

"Aw Crap!" was what I said as I dodged and evaded his wild shots. My wings are too bright, they're a dead give-away in the darkness of night. I suddenly got an idea. I turned to him and let my right hand go limp and hit the wrist against my left shoulder, all the while saying, "You're too slo-ow!" With that I flew down to the building and folded my wings nice and tight. I grabbed the edge and did my best to hang from the roof. I heard his roar and he flew under me with his gun. I dropped on his back and slammed his wings in a way that they were not supposed to go.

He screamed and slammed onto the floor. Pierce was cutting Jean free. Nicole was free and was starring at me in horror. I quickly said, "Pierce, throw me a quill here!" He grew a staff on his elbow, snapped it off and tossed it at me.

I shoved the quill into the wrist of the robot arm. I made sure I had each end in each hand. I twisted the quill and the gun snapped off. Predator looked at the sparks and wires sticking out of his arm. I made one last taunt, "Relax, this won't hurt a bit." I kicked him in the face, which flipped him over and knocked him out. "Oops. I lied."

I turned to the girls and Pierce. They were standing and staring at me with bizarre looks on their faces. I went to Nicole. I hugged her tight. I said, "Believe it or not, this isn't over. I want you to go home, right now. I need to know you're safe. OK?" Then I gave her a kiss. We parted, but we were still in each other's arms. She had a single tear, which she wiped away and said, "OK. I'll call the police. Please be careful." I nodded. I gave her a wink and a thumbs up as I left.

Pierce ran up to me, I grabbed his arms and we flew off. He said over the winds, "Where exactly are we going?" I answered, "Jacob M. Williams, the CEO of Williams Industries. Whatever they did to Hunter, they may be doing more of it to more people right now. We need to stop him, now." The winds were roaring but I swear I could hear him mutter, "Oh of course."

81+1 Heroes Ch. 43: Bugg and Wyatt

Pandora and I were trying to herd the kids out of the Cafeteria while the guys distracted the creatures. Even watching them was annoying. Every time they were attacked, they either reform back to the way they were, or they bend themselves out of the way. Its RIDICULOUS!
The last of the kids left and at the same time Grossman and two other kids came into the room. They looked at the situation. Gross said, "Hey. Where's Dex?" I looked at him in shock. "I thought he was with you!" The skinny kid to his right said, "Don't worry. We can handle this." I looked at him. "And you are....?" He smiled. "You can call me Bugg." I looked at the other kid. He was really short. He answer my unsaid question. "Name's Wyatt. Don't let the size fool ya." He pulled out a deck of cards and did a one handed shuffle. I was a little ticked already so I had no patience left. "Oh, great. You going to offer a game of Poker? Or Go-fish?" He smiled. "Have a little faith will ya?"
They charged towards the monsters. Bugg sprouted insect wings from his back and shot stingers from his fingers. At one point during the battle, Bugg picked up a table that was drilled into the ground and threw it at one of the beasts. Wyatt threw cards that each had a different effect. The first one wrapped them up in glowing ropes. Another card shot fire when he held it out.
Grossman, uh, used his abilities as well. They seem to be working. The creatures, Dr. Quake included, are being knocked out. Dr. Quake is stumbling. He laughs and says, "Aw. You're no fun. Master has what she wants anyway." I found myself close to the scene. I questioned him. "Who?" I asked. "Who is she? And what is it that she has?" He was on his back and he grinned. "I think you knoooowww." Then he conked out and I literally saw Zs coming out of his mouth and floating into the air.
Who is he talking about? I took out my cellphone and called Dexter. No answer. He always answers, even when he's working on something. I turned to Grossman and he got my message. "Bugg, Kenny." He said, "Go to the lab and find Dex. The rest of us need to settle down the school." I turned to the Quack and his little friends. "What about them?" Wyatt put his hand up. "I got this." He tossed a card to the air and, in a flash of light, made the cartoons disappear. The card returned to his hand and he showed the picture to me. The Cartoons were on the card, and they were posing, like in a card game or something.
"Oooooo-Kay." I said. "Lets go tell everyone its OK to come out now."

TL&TOHJ~Hope: Roland

We were flying over the city now. The sun was getting low over the horizon. Gemini and Goliath couldn't fly so we had to carry them. Even with my super strength I was getting tired holding this giant up in the air. "There!" Angel said, thankfully. I could only follow her view as she carried Gemini. I saw them, two Bloods (Gemini's nick-name for them) walking and talking with their hoods down.

We flew over them and I dropped Goliath in front of them, Angel dropped Gemini behind them, and might I say, the looks on their faces were priceless. I said, "Now we got a couple of questions for you." Angel steeped up to one of them and looked at him straight in the eyes. She asked, "Who is the Leader of the Blood Syndicate?" The guy got a spaced out look, like when Devlin talked to that one girl. "I think it's Roland. Roland something." He said in a very bland, very depressed way. The other guy looked at him in disbelief. She nodded. "OK. Do you know where he is? If so, please tell us."

He nodded. "22 Second Street. Warehouse. He said that he had a big message for the city." She looked at me with a look of "Uh-Oh". "What is it?" she asked. "I don't know. Franky does though." He pointed a wave finger at the other gangster. We looked at him. He got really nervous. "I don't know nothin, Man! He said something about setting an example! That's all I know, I swear!"

I said, "OK. Leave them. We got what we want." We flew off to 22 Second Street, leaving a pair of pathetic gangsters on the streets. When we were high in the air, I asked Angel, "How'd you do that anyway?" She answered, "I found out that my eyes can make you tell the truth! Pretty cool, huh?" I smiled. Goliath said, "She found out with my help. And I'm still a little sore from that." We laughed a little, but it was killed by the quick thought of this Roland character having something planned for us. What happened to Jimmy? I hope the kid is OK. Even if he is a street punk.

We got to the warehouse. It was really quiet. We stood in front of it, unsure of what to do. "Should we try knocking?" Angel asked. "I say we go through the roof." Gemini suggested. Goliath stepped up to the big doors, grew to twenty feet in height, and punched the doors in. The room was opened to about thirty guys in the Blood Syndicate Uniform. In the center was Jimmy, tied up in a chair and his hood pulled back. He had (What? Oh, you already...OK I gotcha', sorry). Standing over him was the only other one in the room who had his hood down. He had piercing light blue eyes, dirty blond hair, and a face that looked like it belonged to a maniac's. He looked at us and smiled. He said, "Well looky, looky: I found a cookie! You must be that Haley Yank I've been hearing soooo much about. And the rest of you would be.......?" "Trinity!" The trio said as one. He shrugged. "A bunch of new guys. Whatever. Anyway, I found the American Dream of this country." He grinned so wide I thought that it would pop off his face. "That I can do whatever I want! Sure their are a few set backs, like you genetic freaks, or whatever you are. But, not to worry kiddies! I'll fix you and the little runt here. Boys!" The Bloods pointed their guns at us. Others got their bats, and knives.

This is going to be a Bloody fight.

TL&TOHJ~Hope: Double-Cross

Remember when I said that I thought that I had an immunity to temperatures? I was wrong. I'm guessing I'm only affected by extreme temperatures. Since I woke up shivering and a partial sunburn on my face. I looked around for the kid, but he was nowhere in sight. I saw that it was noon. Aw Snap! My parents are going to kill me! I shook the thought away. What's wrong with me? I need to get that kid before he kills someone! Hmmmmmm. I'm gonna need help on this one.

I met the Trinity at the same tower we met the first time. That's what Goliath, Angel, and Gemini call themselves now. I guess they needed some kind of name. Whatever.

I told them about the kid. When I finished, Gemini looked grim. He said, "That sounds like Little Jimmy." "Who?" We all asked. He explained, "We used to be cool. We call him Little Jimmy because, well, he was short for his age. He was a nice kid, my best friend. A couple of years ago he went to London with his parents and older brother on Summer break. They got on the wrong side of town and.... well, the powder keg of gangs over there started to spark. The family was OK, everyone except the brother. Kevin died in London. Every gang felt bad about getting someone else in their business. Most of them turned themselves in for murder, but Jimmy always said that he saw one that laughed as he shot his brother. The police said that the kid he described was a known criminal, and a sadist. Someone who loves to deal all kinds of pain."

I was trying to work this out. I asked, "So, what? Why is he attacking gangs here, and not in London?" Gemini shook his head. "I thought it was only a rumor, but before those lights hit everyone in town, I heard that some gang leader from England was on its way here. From a gang called the Blood Syndicate. They are thee number one ruthless gang in the country. If they start up over here, nothing good is coming from it." I said, "So what do we do?" We sat silent for a moment.

Angel says, "I have an idea. All we need is one of those gang members......."

Meanwhile...........

Little Jimmy is a little busy (He goes by James Now-a-days). He is literally tied up at the moment. He walked straight into an ambush. He was just waking up. He saw the Blood Syndicate all around him, holding guns, crowbars, knives, and baseball bats. Someone walked up to him and put back his hood. James saw held his breath as he saw the murderer of his brother. His face contorted to a look of pure hate. He tried to get up to kill him but was reminded that he was chained to a chair. The man, Roland Rylander, put James hood back as well, to reveal James' black hair with a white streak. His eyes are silvery blue. Roland chuckles, "You think I don't remember you. Don't worry, I remember you, I killed your brother myself. What's your name again? Kimmy? Timmy? No, Jimmy!" This pissed off James more than anything: the fact like he was recalling their last encounter so lightly. He had no heart. James was convinced he crawled out of the deepest pit of Hell. He could be Satan himself.

He was fuming, but he only said, "The name's Double-Cross." Roland smiled, "If you think I'm going to kill you, you'd be right, but not yet. You're merely the bait. There are more freaks like you running around this town. I only liked a good old fashioned hard working kinda troops. I don't even like those X-men movies, ya know? Anyway, I'm gonna use you to kill that Hero, Haley. That'll set an example for the entire world. That I own this town: This is MY Kingdom! Maybe I'll run for Mayor, or run the Mayor out!" He cackled. Nobody joined him. James had so much anger built him he felt he would burst. Haley was in trouble. He hoped she had enough common sense not to go after a little street punk like him.

TL&TOHJ~Hope: Another Day, Another Dime

It was Saturday. I got a lot of calls from Paul telling me the progress he and Dr. Richards are doing. I'm glad they're doing good. I only got the voice messages, I don't feel like talking to anybody. The day after Thomas went missing the police came by our house, asking me questions that I answered honestly. I don't know where he went, I don't know if he's OK, and I don't know if he had any kind of enemies. What kind of hero am I? I can't even protect a lousy relationship.

I turned over in my bed. What can I do? Link went off a couple of times, but I pretended not to hear it. Pretending to what or who, I'm not sure. I wish I could just go back to the day this all started. I want someone else to take responsibility for this. I never asked for this kind of thing. Sure, it was cool when I got my powers, but now...... I just want to be normal again. I looked at Link, which was still buzzing on the table. I finally picked it up and listened. "Unknown suspect attacking civilians. All victims are under 21 and are been suspected of Gang Activity. Approach with caution. Last seen on Vixen Avenue." I got up and changed into something real quick. I clicked my bracelet, and left out the window, without much enthusiasm.

I looked at the damage from above. A couple of Ambulances loading gangsters with the same, blood-stained jacket. I landed at the back of the crowd. I asked someone next to me, "What happened?" He turned to me. "I've never seen anything like it." He said. "The kids just walked up to him, they started picking fights with him. He just burned them off." Someone else interrupted him. "No he didn't, he froze their arms!" They started going into a pointless arguement. I flew off and they were still fighting. I was a good thirty feet in the air. I could see most of the neighborhood here. It was the area for gang activity. Fights, muggings, groccery store robbings, you name it. I looked over at an alleyway, and I saw someone walking away from the scene a little too fast. Hello.

I dropped down in front of him, hovering above the ground. He jumped back, startled. He wore a black hoody with the hood covering the features of his face. He had dark blue jeans a white T-shirt and black and white Reeboks. I said to him, "Something tells me you know something about what happened back there." He stepped back. Then he said, "Please, don't fight me. I know you just doin' what you do best, but I got somethin' to do. The Blood Syndicate cannot rise in America. If it does, a lot of people are gonna get hurt, and it'll only get worse." I gave him a look. "You want to help people?" He shook his head. "No. After I get my revenge, I'm going into hiding. No one is going to see me ever again."

I felt my expression soften. "Revenge is never a good thing to aim for. We can go to the proper authorities and we can both explain everything to them." He laughed a little, but there was no humor in it. "Trust the cops?" He said. "By the time they actually believe us it'll be too late. They'll be massacres left and right. He doesn't care who he effects, he only wants power. And he'll do anything to get it." I put my fists up. "And this is the part where you fight me due to a big misunderstanding, right?" He shook his head, and raised it enough for me to see his eyes. One eye was green and the other was blue. "No. I'm fighting you because you are in my way."

His left hand turned blue, and his right hand caught on fire. Would you believe me if I said he acted like there was nothing there? He shot a fire ball and an ice blast at the same time.

Greendale: 1 or 21 Guns?

I dusted myself off for the....well, I dusted myself off. Gotta at least try look good for the faire tonight. The bartender, Edward, gave us the privlage to take baths. Which, for us, is a real treat. At least we didn't stink as much. I geared up my guns, even though I'm gonna have ta give 'em up. Its only one short night, it won't be too bad. I heard a knock on the door, and Bell poked her head through. She said, "Hey. You goin somewhere?" I said, "I figured hell wouldn't freeze over if we had a little fun tonight." She smiled and said, "Yeah right. I saw that girl you couldn't stop looking at."

My face burned. "Just, go get the others so we can return the money and all that." She giggled and left. That girl is gonna be the death of me. I looked out the window. Night is already here, and the moon and stars lit up the sky quite nicely. I saw the girl and her boss walking out of their house and walking to the clock tower for the faire.

We dropped the bags of money behind the counter. I would've left a note, but I don't know how to write. Anyway, when we got to the faire, I saw that the town had a pretty nice set-up. They had a stage in the middle, with a platform for couples of all kinds to dance. A group of musicians had a platform on top of the platform, in the back, so that the music can be heard well, but the stage won't be in anyone's way. They had a table filled with foods that'd make any mother jealous. I even saw some booth that had little iron/wooden figures that'll pop up. I saw a man shooting at the little figurines with a provided gun, and he was doing rather poorly. All that was in the distance, we still have to drop off our guns.

"Guns please. We don't want no shoot outs tonight." Said the old man at the desk. I nodded and said, "Of Course." I dropped off my guns. I think he was rather surprised that I was carrying four revolvers and a shotgun. After I was done he said, "What? That it?" I smiled and waited for the others to unload their stuff. The old man and the Sheriff, who was standing by for potential trouble-makers, were watching us in amazement. Bell only had two revolvers. Antonio dropped off the wenstenchester and his revolver. Doc decided to leave our "secret weapon" back in the rooms. He dropped off his revolvers, pushed his glasses back up, and joined us. Butch was last. He dropped off his revolvers and Double-Barrel Shotgun. He was about to walk through when the Sheriff standing by stopped him. "Your knife too, son."

Butch looked at me. That knife had been his dad's. He always kept it close, even when he was asleep. It had sentamental value. I nodded to reassure him. It'll be alright. He hesitantly took out the knife and set it down on the table. The Sheriff let him through. "Have fun at the faire!" He called out to us. We waved back. "We will!" Bell said for us.

Now, time to find that Flower.

Rising Ch. 14: Predator

I couldn't go to Broadsword this time. Not without Predator killing Nicole. I was still in the backyard next to Pierce. He saw what happened. I said to him, "I need your help, Pierce." He said nothing. "Look, I know you hate me more than anything, but this isn't about me, this is about Nicole. I can't fight him and save her alone. Can you stand?" I offered my hand and he swatted it and got up. "What makes you think you deserve my help?" He said in bitterness. I bowed my head. "Please." I begged. "Alone, I don't stand a chance. But maybe together...." I left my voice drift off. I felt numb ever since Nicole and I were fighting. If she dies, then I'll follow after her. He said, "Fine." I faced him again. "But we are not done with this battle." I nodded. "Fair enough."

We arrived at the Lincoln Memorial. I can see Nicole and Jean. They were tied up and hanging from the ceiling. The ropes went on pulleys and I saw that the ropes holding them there was one long rope. I dropped down from the sky with Pierce. That kid was actually light for his age. I wonder when was the last time the kid ate. I shook the thought. Focus Gabe. I entered the memorial. Nicole and Jean saw me at the same time. They spoke at the same time. Jean said, "Gabe! Help me, Gabe!" Nicole said something that caught my attention even more. She said, "Gabe! Its a trap!"

When she said that, Predator came out of nowhere, lunging at me. I grabbed him by the throat but we both went tumbling to the ground. I was punching him to little avail. He pulled his robotic arm back and punched me dead in the chest. I went up in the air and fell on my back, that knocked the wind out of me. My sight was getting blurry. I saw Predator looming over me and snickering. "What? No smart comments? Fine by me." He pulled his fist back, getting ready to smash my head into the concrete.

Pierce made his move. He threw three spikes and got a direct hit on his robot arm. This caused the arm to short circuit and whine a little, or a lot. He then ran up and kicked Predator out of the way.

He helped me up and I....I mean, we got ready for a fight.

Cyrus Noble II Ch. 25: New Soldiers

It was good to get the band back together. We were sitting in the Helicopter that is now taking us to the secret base location. Finally! We can end this nonsense and everybody can go home! We each had a specialized suit. Each was made to protect us from bullets, mid-evil swords, Knives. I shivered at that thought. I saw Sara smiling as she read that little part of my mind. Magnet had his metal board on his back, to him this was lik going to the skate park, but with more skuz-buckets to kick around. Viktor was covered everywhere except his eyes. Megan had to have a specialized suit that covered her wings. Jazz was jam-packed with tools. On her belt, back, heck there was a place for every kind of weapon on her. But that wasn't the reason I was looking at her.

We were sitting next to each other. After this, I swear, I'm gonna marry her. I have a job here at Broadsword, and we are already raising these kids pretty good. "Hey! Animal!" I jumped a mile in the air as a soldier interrupted my thoughts. "We're here. You ready for anything, dreamer boy?" I smirked at him. "I suggest you'd be careful soldier. No telling who's gonna make it out of here alive. Well, except us that is." He glared at us and left the chopper along with the other soldiers. We followed. I laughed a little when I saw that we were entering a comic book store. We went to the back to where the elevator was. I went down first with a batch of soldiers. We waited at the bottom while the other soldiers and us mutants come down. Gabe said he had an emergency of his own. That's OK. We can handle this.

We explored the secret underground lab. Me in front. The kids behind me, and the soldiers bringing up the rear. There were glass cases all over the place. Some were empty, some were broken, others were occupied by, what I'm seeing on the moniters, dead experiments. I looked back at the kids. Sara had a mortified look. The others staring nervously everywhere. This brought back too many memories. Me included.

We made it to what looked like the remains of an office. The wall on the other end was opened to a small room. In the center was a pad with mechanical arms frozen around and above it. "A teleportation machine?" Jazz said. "Where does it lead to?" Viktor asked. "To wherever Bishop's Masters are." I stepped toward the machine. "Jazz, can you--Whoa!" The machine turned on and it istantly pulled me into it.

I found myself in a cavern. It must have been deep underground. I saw stalagtites everywhere. Or, is it stalagmites? Whatever. Anyway I saw that I was underground. I looked around and saw that there were soldiers coming at me. I got up and as they got close I saw that they had barely anything on. They had armor covering their upper torsos, shins and forearms (and of course mid-evil metal skirts to match). They had helmets that had black eyepieces. They had staffs that were glowering on the end. Great, the Predators Fan-club is coming to get me. I got ready for a fight when one of them stabbed me in the stomach. I cried out and I felt electricity surge through me; I soon passed out.

TL&TOHJ~Hope: My first fight

I woke to a buzzing sound. I looked over to the dresser and saw that Link was about to vibrate itself of of the dresser. I picked it up and listened to the machine. "Disturbance. Unknown Creature. Vertex street." Vertex street? That's not too far from Thomas' house! I clicked my bracelet, ever so slowly opened my window and flew out into the night and over to Vertex Street.

It started raining, badly. It couldn't at least snow, it has to rain on top of the little snow we see here. I hate the weather now. I saw the policemen down below and I came up behind one of them. I asked, "Uh, excuse me?" The policemen spun around from the conversation. "Uh, where is that creature heading?" They never got the chance to answer because one of their radios blared out. "We got it! We got it! Now in pursuit in the park!" I smiled as the officer looked back to me. "Never mind." I said, smiling, and flew off. I landed in the park and walked over to a shadow against the woods. The officers were tied up in......Toilet Paper? I felt the stuff. No, not toilet paper. Some kind of gauze. I think they use this in hospitals, ya know, for broken stuff and sprained ankles/wrists.

I spun around as I heard a rustling in the bushes. "Hey! Its not nice sneaking up on people! Come out now and I'll make sure you'll get some medical attention." I said this because I don't want to threaten him/her/it. Especially since I practically attacked Brandon Keith when even he didn't know what was going on. But apparently the thing would have none of it. "NO! NO Hospitals!" A ball attached to a string lashed out and I barely dodged out of the way in time for it to snap into a tree. I got enough of a look that the ball and string was made of gauze as well. The tree snapped into splitters and I was surprised that it didn't tip over. I pulled out my glasses and looked at the other end of the gauze string, and saw a dark aura emanating from behind the bushes. The creature stepped out into the light provided by the local street-lamps. I gasped as I saw a mummy. It revealed only one eye, and other than that the gauze covered it from head to foot, he wore only a pair of black underwear. It's appearance was not the reason I gasped, I gasped because the eye of the creature looked very familiar.

I put the glasses off and said very slowly, "Thomas? Is that you?" The thing looked at me in surprise. It stood up to reveal it was a full seven feet tall. He said, "You.....know me? Who are you?" I looked at him up and down. I need him to trust me. Even if it means exposing myself. I clicked my bracelet, and in a flash of light I was myself again. In my pajamas, and standing in the cold, wet rain. "Haley!" Thomas said in relief/surprise. He stepped forward to hug me, but he stopped then retreated. With his back to me he said, "I.....I didn't want you to see me like this. I'm.....I'm a monster." I kinda laughed. I said, "Oh, come on. Can't you just take the gauze off?" He looked at me over his shoulder and held his hand up. The wrappings unraveled and revealed......nothing. I mean, the was nothing under the wrappings, it was like that gauze is all he is.

He reformed his hand and put it down in despair. I walked over to him and stood in front of him. I said, "What about the rest of you?" He looked at me with his pleading eye. He closed it and the wrappings around his head unveiled. There was nothing under there either. He reformed his head, and said, "That's it then. After this, I'm never getting out of the hospitals. They'll do even worse! Experiments! I can't go back! I can never go back!" I tried to calm him down, but he was freaking (The dark aura around him was glowering now, fully visible). "NO! You're like all the others! Taking pity on me, never seeing me for who I am! Get away from me!" He swatted me to the side and slammed me into a tree. I got up, a little dazed. I clicked my bracelet. I had tears in my eyes as he charged at me. They were still there when I was dodging his punches. He formed a ball in his hands and threw it at me. It hit me and exploded, the explosion formed wrappings that made a mummy out of me.

I broke the ties after a few minutes and the laser eyes helped. Although I started to feel a little tired. I guess the laser eyes take a decent amount of energy. I looked at Thomas. He formed a hammer out of the gauze wrappings. I was getting mad. "All-Right, Fine!" He froze and I clicked my bracelet. I was on my knees, crying. I said to him, "I am not fighting you, Thomas. What happened to the kid that saved me from those bullies? Huh? Where did he go?" He stood there, hammer still in hand. I went on. "Go ahead. Prove yourself right. I won't give you much resistance." I lowered my head in submission. Each drop of rain felt like an ice dagger on my neck and body.

I only heard this: "I'm......I'm so sorry." When I looked up he was gone. I looked around and saw that he was completely gone. I clicked my bracelet and went home. I don't feel like being a hero anymore.

The Life and Times of Haley Jones~Hope: Thomas' Escape

"So you two are an item now?" Candy asked over the phone. "Yeah. Its a little sketchy with Mom and Dad, but he's a great guy. They'll see that soon enough." "That's great! But I don't think you should mention it too much to Joey though." I was a little stunned. "Wha?" "You are clueless aren't you?" I snapped. "Stop playing around and tell me!" She said, "Sorry, I can't. Seriously though, think about other jealous boys." With that she giggled and hung up. Why is she so playful all the time? She's like a kitten with a ball of yarn. I snuggled into bed and soon went to sleep.

Meanwhile........

I was in bed. I'd rather be doing anything than laying here helplessly. I want to hang out with Haley, be able to protect her if I needed to. I have to page my parents whenever I need to use the restroom, or for anything for that matter. If anything, I am a burden for them. The only child, with two legs that don't work anymore. I HATE feeling like this! "Aaaaaaaagh!" I screamed as the pain in my chest exploded. I can't take this anymore! I reached over and paged 9-1-1 to my parents.

Later that night, I am in a hospital bed. Great, I upgraded my hopelessness. The doctors can't figure out what's going on with me. I'm paralyzed, not deaf: I overheard their conversation behind the curtains. They wanted me to stay in the hospital for the remainder of the night, so they can keep an eye on me. I stared out of the window. The black night sky looked so peaceful. I wish I could just stand to reach it, or run out in it. I heard myself muttering, but I didn't care. "I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I HATE hospitals! The needles, the beds, the dang gowns, the freaking antiseptic smell. I'm sick of it! I want out of here!" Suddenly, a dark cloud came from nowhere. It grew bigger and bigger, until it consumed him. It swirled around him and he cried out in surprise.

A nurse came into the room to see what was going on. She saw that the bed was empty and thought the poor boy fell out by accident. She went to the bed, but when she saw that the boy was nowhere near the bed, she got a look of confusion. Am I being punked? She thought to herself. She sensed movement behind her, she turned and saw a single eye glowering at her from the shadows. The creature stepped forward to reveal itself further-more. The nurse screamed at what she saw and ran out of the room to tell someone. The creature looked at his hands and discovered the problem. He broke the window and escaped.

TL&TOHJ~Hope: Ridiculous

Thomas was laying in his bed, but in no way was he asleep. His mind was racing. He remembered almost immediately who she was. He remembered how he took the hits from those other blasted kids that were picking on her. He gave her a piece of chocolate. Later, his mother completely forgot about the candy due to her being furious with that other parent. He hadn't thought about that day in a long time. It just didn't seem important enough to remember, at least not until earlier today. He was so confused, did he really like her? Or was he just glad that he got to see (what feels like) an old friend?

He felt a pain in his chest. He shot straight up in his bed because of it. Where were these pains coming from? He's been having them since his parents found him knocked out and on the ground next to his wheelchair, out in their backyard. He doesn't remember what happened from the time he went out, to the time he passed out. He kept getting glimpses of a black comet, rocketing through the sky. His parents freaked out enough about his "fall" they don't need to know about simple cramps. Although, they may have to. Its only getting worse. He cursed himself. He hated feeling like this. Pathetic, Weak, Vulnerable. He didn't need people taking pity on him, and he doesn't want it.

Its really late. He should at least try to sleep.

The next day, Haley met him at his house. They got a ride to Devlin's house. They didn't say much. They really didn't know what to say to each other. After they got to Devlin's house the father promised to pick him up later and drove off. They went inside and Haley said, "Wait. There's something I need to tell you." He nodded. "OK. What's up?" "I, uh, remember when we last met. We were both little kids, remember?" He nodded. "Yeah, I got knocked around by those kids." He chuckled at the memory. "So.......what?" He asked. "Huh?" "What about it?" She was turning red. "Well, I, uh, was thinking, um, that we could......." "That we could what?" He asked. She muttered. Thomas was getting a little impatient. "Date." she repeated. A long minute passed. She said, "I know. It's a stupid idea. Ridiculous. I totally understand." He grunted. "Not completely ridiculous."

Candy just got up the stairs and saw the little scene unfolding. "Oh! Is this Thomas?" she asked. They introduced themselves and got on with their day.

TL&TOHJ~Hope: Flashback sequence

I was talking to Joe Joe on our cells. I couldn't get a hold of Devlin or Candy, I don't like leaving them in the dark like this but I needed to get this off my chest. "I'm telling you Joey! I know him!" I was frantically panicking. Joey snapped, "OK! I get it! Will you tell me already?" I took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I just....I can't believe its him. OK. Do you promise not to tell anyone?" He started, "What about--" "I'll tell them too! I just need you to promise me, OK? This is really embarrassing for me to admit." His voice was very sincere and soft when he answered. "Yes. I promise. You can always count on me, Haley." I sighed. "Thanks. Now, uh, when I was really little I had a crush. It was a stupid little crush, but........ Anyway, we were at the park one day. Paul was at a friend's house, and I was playing by myself in a sandbox..........

Flashback

The little brown haired girl played in her sand box. These three older kids came up to her. "Hey! We want a turn with the sandbox!" The girl looked up. She looked at the sandbox around her. She was the only one playing in it. "There's plenty of room here." The kid shook his head. "No. Its our sandbox. It ours and only ours. So get out." She put her hands on her hips. "That's stupid." The kids stepped up to her. Another older kid stepped in between them. He said, "Back off. Let her play. Its every body's sandbox." The bully protested. "We just wanted to show her a game. We play it all the time." He stepped aside and never took his eyes off them as they entered the sandbox. They took the little girl and shoved her head into the sand. The older kid charged at them and shoved the leader of them out of there. He followed him and started the fight. The other two followed.

Thirty minutes later, the unknown kid and the sniffling little girl were sitting on a park bench. The parents were sorting out what happened, and yelling at each other. Most of it was coming from the mother of the bullies, screaming bad words at the top of her lungs. The boy looked at the parents and at the girl, he then went through his mother's purse which was sitting beside him. He pulled out a candy bar. He opened it and said, "Want some chocolate?" as if nothing happened. She looked at it and took the big piece given. He said, "I was suppose to have it if I behaved today, but I don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon." She said nothing. After she finished it she wiped her mouth and said, "You have a boo-boo on your cheek." He felt it and winced at the pain. She scooted over to him and kissed the bruise. It didn't make it feel better, but it did, somehow. He said, "Thanks" anyway. She said, "What's your name?" He said, "Thomas. What's yours?" "Haley." She answered. They never got to finish their conversation. Their parents came over in a fury and rushed their kids to their cars and drove off.

...............................

I waited for the teasing and laughter I would normally get from Joe Joe, but I heard nothing. After a while I heard him say, "So, you want to what? Date him?" "Well, I don't know. Maybe. Is that normal?" Another pause. "Well, yeah. I heard some guys dating younger girls, it didn't end well for the guy on the most part. Mostly because the girl's parents keep suspecting him of 'inappropriate activities'." There was a certain edge in his voice. "Joey? Are you OK?" "Huh? Uh, yeah. Why?" I thought about this. Maybe it'd be better if I dodged it for now. "Oh, Nothing. So, no one is going to give a second glance at us if we just went around holding each other's hand?" I heard him clear his throat on the other end. "No. Not really." He answered. I smiled as I laid down on my bed. "Thanks Joey. Your the best."

I said I'd see him and the others at Devlin's place tomorrow and I might even be able to bring Thomas! He hung up without saying goodbye. That was weird. Ah, well. It doesn't matter. That's probably just a guy thing. Right?

Demigod: Krogar, son of Ares

I charged into the village to fight off the hooligans. I swung the scythe around and stuck it into the one Ares Child who just turned around to face me. I ripped it out and he fell. I ran to another who was about to strike down a woman and her child. With the swing of my scythe his head rolled.

The others started to notice me. One of them said, "Look! It is the Child of Death itself!" Another said, "If we kill him, we will be remembered and praised for all eternity!" Bring it, you savage brutes.

They came at me with swords and spears and maces. Surprisingly no shields. They believe that they have the blessing of Ares! They should know better. I slashed three of them in a row. One of them knocked me to the side. He almost had me until, almost by instinct, I commanded the flames to shoot out of my palm. It covered and consumed him in agony. I thought it was strange that the flames were of silver and not of red or orange or yellow. They were effective all the same, if not twice as effective.

I slashed and fired in different combos. I threw one fireball into the face of one of the soldiers, and some of the flames went to innocent bystanders. I was about to run to help them, but the flames died before they touched him. I was probably lucky that time. I have to be more careful. I looked around at the carnage I had created. I heard a voice behind me. It said, "You are a great warrior." I spun around and readied my weapon. He had dirty blond hair and dark blue eyes. He had a jagged scar running down the side of his face. He wore red armor, with the symbol of the boar amongst the chest plate. His weapon was a Persian curved blade. It was made specifically to cut and wound, it usually did its job. He said, "What is something like you doing out here?" I didn't let my guard down. "I am going to Athens to find the means for a safe passage way into the Underworld. There I will destroy Hades and have my revenge." He showed nothing but he thought to himself aloud. "If I were to Destroy the Lord of the Dead, I would be remembered and praised for all eternity! I would like to join you on your quest." I felt my eyebrow arching.

"How would I know you would not stab me in the back as soon as it was turned?" He got down on his knees and offered his weapon. "If that be the case," he said, "then strike me down with my own sword. I will think nothing less of you. I never wanted to carry out the vile deeds of Ares anyway." I thought about this. I lowered my weapon and took his sword. It was light in my hands. I said, "Rise, for you are my new ally. Also my only one." He rose with a gentle smile and took back his weapon. I said, "Before we begin our travels I must ask for thy name." He nodded. "I am Krogar! Formally, a warrior for Ares! Now I am a warrior for......and what is thy name?" "Malesus." I answered. "They call me Malesus."
