I charged into the village to fight off the hooligans. I swung the scythe around and stuck it into the one Ares Child who just turned around to face me. I ripped it out and he fell. I ran to another who was about to strike down a woman and her child. With the swing of my scythe his head rolled.
The others started to notice me. One of them said, "Look! It is the Child of Death itself!" Another said, "If we kill him, we will be remembered and praised for all eternity!" Bring it, you savage brutes.
They came at me with swords and spears and maces. Surprisingly no shields. They believe that they have the blessing of Ares! They should know better. I slashed three of them in a row. One of them knocked me to the side. He almost had me until, almost by instinct, I commanded the flames to shoot out of my palm. It covered and consumed him in agony. I thought it was strange that the flames were of silver and not of red or orange or yellow. They were effective all the same, if not twice as effective.
I slashed and fired in different combos. I threw one fireball into the face of one of the soldiers, and some of the flames went to innocent bystanders. I was about to run to help them, but the flames died before they touched him. I was probably lucky that time. I have to be more careful. I looked around at the carnage I had created. I heard a voice behind me. It said, "You are a great warrior." I spun around and readied my weapon. He had dirty blond hair and dark blue eyes. He had a jagged scar running down the side of his face. He wore red armor, with the symbol of the boar amongst the chest plate. His weapon was a Persian curved blade. It was made specifically to cut and wound, it usually did its job. He said, "What is something like you doing out here?" I didn't let my guard down. "I am going to Athens to find the means for a safe passage way into the Underworld. There I will destroy Hades and have my revenge." He showed nothing but he thought to himself aloud. "If I were to Destroy the Lord of the Dead, I would be remembered and praised for all eternity! I would like to join you on your quest." I felt my eyebrow arching.
"How would I know you would not stab me in the back as soon as it was turned?" He got down on his knees and offered his weapon. "If that be the case," he said, "then strike me down with my own sword. I will think nothing less of you. I never wanted to carry out the vile deeds of Ares anyway." I thought about this. I lowered my weapon and took his sword. It was light in my hands. I said, "Rise, for you are my new ally. Also my only one." He rose with a gentle smile and took back his weapon. I said, "Before we begin our travels I must ask for thy name." He nodded. "I am Krogar! Formally, a warrior for Ares! Now I am a warrior for......and what is thy name?" "Malesus." I answered. "They call me Malesus."
