TL&TOHJ~Hope: Another Day, Another Dime

It was Saturday. I got a lot of calls from Paul telling me the progress he and Dr. Richards are doing. I'm glad they're doing good. I only got the voice messages, I don't feel like talking to anybody. The day after Thomas went missing the police came by our house, asking me questions that I answered honestly. I don't know where he went, I don't know if he's OK, and I don't know if he had any kind of enemies. What kind of hero am I? I can't even protect a lousy relationship.

I turned over in my bed. What can I do? Link went off a couple of times, but I pretended not to hear it. Pretending to what or who, I'm not sure. I wish I could just go back to the day this all started. I want someone else to take responsibility for this. I never asked for this kind of thing. Sure, it was cool when I got my powers, but now...... I just want to be normal again. I looked at Link, which was still buzzing on the table. I finally picked it up and listened. "Unknown suspect attacking civilians. All victims are under 21 and are been suspected of Gang Activity. Approach with caution. Last seen on Vixen Avenue." I got up and changed into something real quick. I clicked my bracelet, and left out the window, without much enthusiasm.

I looked at the damage from above. A couple of Ambulances loading gangsters with the same, blood-stained jacket. I landed at the back of the crowd. I asked someone next to me, "What happened?" He turned to me. "I've never seen anything like it." He said. "The kids just walked up to him, they started picking fights with him. He just burned them off." Someone else interrupted him. "No he didn't, he froze their arms!" They started going into a pointless arguement. I flew off and they were still fighting. I was a good thirty feet in the air. I could see most of the neighborhood here. It was the area for gang activity. Fights, muggings, groccery store robbings, you name it. I looked over at an alleyway, and I saw someone walking away from the scene a little too fast. Hello.

I dropped down in front of him, hovering above the ground. He jumped back, startled. He wore a black hoody with the hood covering the features of his face. He had dark blue jeans a white T-shirt and black and white Reeboks. I said to him, "Something tells me you know something about what happened back there." He stepped back. Then he said, "Please, don't fight me. I know you just doin' what you do best, but I got somethin' to do. The Blood Syndicate cannot rise in America. If it does, a lot of people are gonna get hurt, and it'll only get worse." I gave him a look. "You want to help people?" He shook his head. "No. After I get my revenge, I'm going into hiding. No one is going to see me ever again."

I felt my expression soften. "Revenge is never a good thing to aim for. We can go to the proper authorities and we can both explain everything to them." He laughed a little, but there was no humor in it. "Trust the cops?" He said. "By the time they actually believe us it'll be too late. They'll be massacres left and right. He doesn't care who he effects, he only wants power. And he'll do anything to get it." I put my fists up. "And this is the part where you fight me due to a big misunderstanding, right?" He shook his head, and raised it enough for me to see his eyes. One eye was green and the other was blue. "No. I'm fighting you because you are in my way."

His left hand turned blue, and his right hand caught on fire. Would you believe me if I said he acted like there was nothing there? He shot a fire ball and an ice blast at the same time.
