TL&TOHJ~Hope: Ridiculous

Thomas was laying in his bed, but in no way was he asleep. His mind was racing. He remembered almost immediately who she was. He remembered how he took the hits from those other blasted kids that were picking on her. He gave her a piece of chocolate. Later, his mother completely forgot about the candy due to her being furious with that other parent. He hadn't thought about that day in a long time. It just didn't seem important enough to remember, at least not until earlier today. He was so confused, did he really like her? Or was he just glad that he got to see (what feels like) an old friend?

He felt a pain in his chest. He shot straight up in his bed because of it. Where were these pains coming from? He's been having them since his parents found him knocked out and on the ground next to his wheelchair, out in their backyard. He doesn't remember what happened from the time he went out, to the time he passed out. He kept getting glimpses of a black comet, rocketing through the sky. His parents freaked out enough about his "fall" they don't need to know about simple cramps. Although, they may have to. Its only getting worse. He cursed himself. He hated feeling like this. Pathetic, Weak, Vulnerable. He didn't need people taking pity on him, and he doesn't want it.

Its really late. He should at least try to sleep.

The next day, Haley met him at his house. They got a ride to Devlin's house. They didn't say much. They really didn't know what to say to each other. After they got to Devlin's house the father promised to pick him up later and drove off. They went inside and Haley said, "Wait. There's something I need to tell you." He nodded. "OK. What's up?" "I, uh, remember when we last met. We were both little kids, remember?" He nodded. "Yeah, I got knocked around by those kids." He chuckled at the memory. "So.......what?" He asked. "Huh?" "What about it?" She was turning red. "Well, I, uh, was thinking, um, that we could......." "That we could what?" He asked. She muttered. Thomas was getting a little impatient. "Date." she repeated. A long minute passed. She said, "I know. It's a stupid idea. Ridiculous. I totally understand." He grunted. "Not completely ridiculous."

Candy just got up the stairs and saw the little scene unfolding. "Oh! Is this Thomas?" she asked. They introduced themselves and got on with their day.
