It was the next day. I never told mom about me almost dieing or that we were up till three in the mourning looking for, and then finally catching Dexter's Little sister. I was in Dex's Lab. He said he wanted to do some harmless tests, to see what makes me different from everyone else. To see why Red stopped at me. I had to say I was curious myself.
We did X-rays, and about five other different scans that I didn't even know you could do. They all required me laying on a bed and having it slide into a machine. I was comfortable with Dexter, I trusted him. He did, after all, save my life; plus its not like I had to slip into a hospital gown or anything. I just kept all my clothes. Anyway I just got done and was sliding out when I looked over to see Dexter rubbing his eyes with his thumb and pointer finger. His glasses in his other hand. I sat up on the edge of the bed. "What's wrong?" I asked. He put his glasses back on. "There is nothing special about you." I knew what he meant but I decided to mess with him a little. "Oh. Well, when you put it that way..." He sighed. "You know what I mean. My scanners don't pick up anything out of the ordinary. Are you sure you don't have any special abilities?" I tilted my head slightly, as if I had to think about it. "Uuuhhh. I can wiggle both ears at the same time." He just looked at me. Jeez, what does it take for this kid to crack a smile? I sighed this time. "No. If I had special abilities, I'm sure I would have noticed them by now."
He was rubbing his eyes again. "Great. If this is a magical reason I'm never going to here the end of it from Misty." Now it was my turn to look at him. "What?" I said. That probably sounded more threatening than it should have. I don't think he noticed though. He said, "Misty and I have had an on-going argument about magic. She makes these little potions and casts spells with help of the Good Lord. And I respect that, I'm as much as a Christian as she is, but I have a little trouble believing in that kind of stuff." I shrugged. A religious boy genius, Who knew?
We really didn't get to finish our conversation. The computer Dexter was sitting at started to set off an alarm. Dexter was on it in seconds, typing in commands and pulling up a video feed. The video I saw showed five kids. walking down the street. They looked normal, but I felt....strange. Like I was getting a bad vibe from them. The kid leading them was tall and slightly bulky in muscles. He had white hair, a black jacket and shirt, jeans and black combat boots. He had scars all over his face. When Dexter saw this he said, "Aw Crud. It's him, and it looks like he got some new recruits now." I asked, "What? Who is it?" He turned to me. "Stay here. This one is dangerous." With that he walked to the exit. He said to his computer, "Computer, I need Delila, Phoebe, Caleb, Drew, and Ivan." He kept walking. I was right behind him. "What about our guys?" He said over his shoulder, "Sent them and a few others on there way to another mission. Now do yourself a favor and stay here." "Oh yeah right. I'm gonna stand here and watch you fight some big bad guy in the middle of town? I don't think so."
