The next day at school I was talking to Candy about the mystery guy last night night. She asked, "Do you think it someone here at the school?" I thought about this kid in a school uniform, walking in the hallway, carrying books to his classrooms. Then stressing about the next pop quiz. "Somehow I don't see him doing what we do everyday." Our conversation was interrupted by laughter.
We turned to see Brandon Keith and his groupies picking on Devlin again. Brandon was a jerk to everyone, and nobody likes him. He part of the football team, and he thinks that automatically makes him cool. Him and a bunch of others pick on Devlin because he's one of the biggest kids in school, and he doesn't fight back. It's like trying to prove your a man by hog tying a rubber bull.
What I would give to just break his nose. We started toward them to stick up for Devlin. We stood in between them. "Lay off jerk! You do this every other day! Its time you knock it off!" He mocked me. "Time to knock it off!" Joe stepped in and shoved him away. "You think you're so tough?" He said. "You would last two seconds in a fight with me! So unless you want to end up in a hospital bed, back off!" Brandon and Joe Joe were the same height, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out who would win. They glared at each other for several minutes. Then Brandon laughed a little. "Ahhh. You're all a waste of my time anyway." In Brandon talk that means, "OK. You win. I'm gonna act all macho anyway, even though I'm an insecure loser." We all glared at him as him and his groupies left.
We turned to Dev. "You OK Devlin?" Candy asked. He nodded, his hair was covering his eyes. "Yeah. Brandon's teasings are getting more aggressive than usual." Joe Joe put a hand on his shoulder. "Listen man. I'm not one for adults to get involved, but you seriously need to get someone to do something about this. If its this serious they have to do something." He shook his head. "They are going to accomplish nothing. They don't care, as long as they get their next paycheck." I said, "That's not true, Dev." He sighed. "Whatever, you can tell them if you want. I, on the other hand, can deal with it." He walked off to his next class. I sighed. "What is it with you guys? Its like you all got something to prove to everybody." Joe Joe said, "Hey, don't look at me. Its a pride thing, you wouldn't understand." "Please, enlighten us." I said. Candy agreed. "If he goes to the teachers then he'll feel like a tattletale. I don't blame him, if I went to the teachers half the time when I actually needed to, I'd feel like a prick." I thought about this, I know a lot of people like that.
My thoughts were interrupted by a cry in pain. I looked down the hall to see Brandon Keith doubled over in pain. About time, if someone punched him in the gut then he should get a prize. However, everyone around him didn't looked triumphant, or full of rage, they looked worried. Like he was going to puke or something.
Did I see.....no it was probably just my eyes playing--there it is again! There is electricity dancing all over him! With one last scream he sent a shock wave of energy around him. It sent the closest people flying and it knocked everyone else over. The old Brandon Keith was replaced by something that is made purely of electricity. His clothes are in tatters, I'm surprised that he even has his clothes at all. I looked at the others. "Get the kids out of the school!" They nodded and started helping people. I backed myself into the janitor's closet and clicked my bracelet.
After I was in my Hero form I flew out to give out a beat down. I floated in the middle of the hallway. I said, "Let's take this outside, OK?" I tackled him and flew both of us through the front door. He was on his back and scrambling to get away. "Get back! Get Back!" he said in a rather different voice. He swung at they air with his arm, in my direction. That sent a wave of energy at me and smacked me upside the head. Ow.
I was smiling on the inside, this was all the excuse I needed to kick him around for a change. I grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and pulled him in the air. I cocked my fist back to let him have it. He dissipated through my fingers and went into the nearest telephone pole. I can see the surge of energy going through the lines.
Crud! He's getting away!
